Wednesday Crime Blotter: Robbed for Sneakers in Sheepshead Bay, An Unprovoked Attack in a Williamsburg Bar & More

BROWNSVILLE – A 14-year-old suspect has been identified in the tragic shooting death of 16-year-old Timothy Oyebola in Brownsville in late September.

Just before 4:00 pm on Friday, September 22, police arrived at the scene of a man shot near Chester and Sutter Avenues to find 16-year old Timothy Oyebola unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

EMS transported the boy to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Now, police are on the lookout for a suspect identified as Aaron Nathaniel, 14. Surveillance photos of Nathaniel can be seen below:

SHEEPSHEAD BAY  – Two men robbed a 15-year old boy on Ocean Avenue last week and police are hoping they’ll be recognized from surveillance video.

The robbery occurred around 9:40 am on Thursday, September 27, in front of 2475 Ocean Avenue, said police. The men approached the boy from behind, telling him, “Give us your money or we’ll beat you up!”

The victim quickly complied to avoid a beating, but after he handed over $5 in cash, the robbers demanded his shoes, too, removing his sneakers from his feet and fleeing south on Ocean Avenue, then west on Avenue U, said police.

EAST NEW YORK – A brutal stomping assault on a man on New Lots Avenue was caught on tape, and now police are looking for the man who attacked the victim, along with the group of women who attempted to rob the beaten man while he was down.

The attack came around 2:30 pm on Wednesday, September 26, in front of 779 New Lots Avenue, said police. A 45-year-old man was knocked to the ground by a suspect, then punched and kicked repeatedly while he was down. Then, three women tried to steal his property while he lay in the gutter, said police.

Responding EMS brought the victim to Brookdale Hospital, where he was treated for severe head trauma, said police.

WILLIAMSBURG – On a mid-September night in Williamsburg, a cell-phone snatching bandit grabbed a smartphone from the ear of a child and fled.

The incident occurred around 7:30 pm on Thursday, September 13, said police, in the rear of 29 Moore Street in Williamsburg. The 10-year-old victim was walking and talking on the phone, worth about $400, when the robber snatched it away and ran, said police.

WILLIAMSBURG – Police are looking for the man who started an apparently unprovoked bar fight in a South Williamsburg bar early last month.

The assault took place at The Woods bar on South 4th Street in Williamsburg, around 1:45 am on Saturday, September 8, said police. The suspect punched his 23-year-old male victim in the face without warning, breaking the man’s nose and knocking him unconscious. Immediately, he fled the bar, said police.

The individual in question was caught on camera, however, and police are asking the public to help identify him from the video below:
