Video: Underground Transformer Explodes In Yesterday’s Rain
Rains caused an underground electrical transformer to blow out on Emmons Avenue yesterday at around 4:00 p.m. Emergency crews worked to shut power off, extinguish the fire, and repair the damage in front of the landmarked Lundy’s building. There was no electrical service outage to anyone in the area, and no one was hurt.
At around the 40 second mark in the video above, you can hear rumbling. The pops and thuds were coming from the underground power line, crackling with electricity reacting to the water. Con Edison shut the power off to the transformer and the FDNY and other emergency response teams went about their work.
Thank you to the handful of readers that tipped us off to the incident.
