Earlier this week, we brought you a list of publicly-accessible indoor pools in Brooklyn as one way to keep fit and active through the winter months. Now there’s another free program to take advantage of: Fit In The 35th — a “new health initiative to promote a healthier lifestyle and physical fitness” within the 35th Council District, which is led by Councilmember Laurie Cumbo.

Open to everyone aged 14 and over, the monthly series of workout classes starts with ZUMBA this coming Monday, November 9 at 5:30pm at Cumberland Diagnostic and Treatment Center.

Upcoming classes will feature the likes of martial arts and dance.

“There is an urgency for healthy living. Our communities are suffering from hypertension, diabetes, obesity and a host of other ailments,” said Cumberland’s Director of Community Relations, Nancy Ramos. “We [are] encouraging our community to adopt healthier lifestyles [by] providing this program free for anyone who wants to attend.”

Classes are free, but registration recommended by calling Nancy Ramos (718) 260-7572.

“Don’t wait until the New Year to make your fitness resolutions; a healthy lifestyle is 365 days a year,” said Cumbo in a statement. “Regular physical activity can decrease your risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes, improve your mood and of course help with weight loss.
