Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

Today is the first day of summer and thanks to Make Music New York, the annual city-wide festival, it’s going to be a tuneful one in the nabe. All manner of musical acts – from soul to electronic, from jazz to folk – will perform, and our reporters will be out live blogging from most of the 12 local venues. Look for our event preview with links to performers’ later this morning.

Here’s the rest of the news from around the nabe:

  • If today’s abundance of live music just leaves you wanting more, the local Hillstock Festival has scheduled day-long events for Saturday and Sunday. Tomorrow, a free block party brings sixteen bands to 106 Emerson Place and on Sunday, twelve acts play at 402 ½ Park Avenue. You can view the entire schedule here, including tonight’s four-band bill at the Putnam Triangle Plaza, a part of Make Music New York.
  • A tree branch fell and injured two people on Monument Walk in the Ingersoll Houses yesterday, the New York Daily News reported. Emergency Medical Service staff brought the pair to Kings County Hospital. According to a witness in the report, the branch fell “at least six stories.” In May 2012, the New York Times published an article on the state of tree care and the danger of falling branches in New York City. With so much old growth in the nabe, do you think more care needs to be taken in local tree pruning?
