Technovation Innovation: Women Mentors Needed for Local High School Girls

James Madison High School is looking for women to volunteer with a technical or business background to mentor students for the Technovation Challenge. High school girls will work in teams to develop mobile apps, conduct market research, write business plans, and create a “pitch” for funding.

Mentors can meet with students in school, virtually, or a combination of the two. The commitment is only 2 hours a week during a 12 week period.

The competition culminates in a Technovation World Pitch event where teams compete for funding to launch their company and take their app to market.

Sara Spiegel, the teacher who is heading the Program is enthusiastic and hopeful. “No matter what the students accomplish I am certain they will learn a lot in terms of technology skills, team work, problem solving and creativity,” Sara says. “I was hoping for one team of students and ended up with five!”

She needs a minimum of three more volunteers.
