This Sunday, Drink Beer & Fight For Affordable Housing At The Flatbush Tenant Coalition Fundraiser At Bar Chord
Flatbush Tenant Coalition

From rallying to improve Ditmas Park apartment buildings plagued by horrific conditions to urging legislators and candidates to focus on affordable housing in our area, the Flatbush Tenant Coalition does incredible work for so many of our neighbors. This Sunday, December 7, from 3-5pm, you can join coalition members, as well as a bevy of social justice leaders from throughout the city, for a celebration of the group’s work during a fundraiser at Bar Chord (1008 Cortelyou Road, between Stratford Road and Coney Island Avenue).

Seth Borgos, of the Center for Community Change; longtime community organizer (and brother of Jon Kest) Steve Kest; president and founder of The Black Institute, and former ACORN organizer, Bertha Lewis; and Matt Ryan, executive director of ALIGN; are hosting the Sunday fundraiser for the coalition, which not only works to preserve affordable housing in our neighborhood but throughout Flatbush, East Flatbush, and Prospect Lefferts Gardens.

“The coalition needs your help to carry on this important work,” the group said in an email to us. “Join us for a drink, mingle with your neighbors and friends, and support the fight for safe, decent, and affordable housing.”

In the same email, the tenant group noted that:

Since it was founded in 2011, the coalition has organized dozens of tenant associations and developed and supported hundreds of tenant leaders who fight to stop tenant harassment and displacement in their buildings, and work together to strengthen tenant rights in NYC and across the state.
In the last year alone, the coalition has:
· obtained thousands of repairs and stopped hundreds of illegal & unjust rent increases
· trained more than 600 tenants on how to enforce their rights
· hosted a NY State Candidate Forum where more than 230 neighborhood residents met local candidates
· joined with other housing organizations to win the lowest rent increases for rent stabilized tenants in NYC history!

If you plan on attending, you’re asked to RSVP by emailing ftcoalition@gmail.com. And if you can’t attend on Sunday, you can still donate to the group by going here.
