Starbucks Opening At 4th Avenue & Union In Park Slope

PARK SLOPE – A reader sent in a tip earlier this week that a new Starbucks is setting up shop near the southeast corner of 4th Avenue and Union Street.

Located beneath construction scaffolding at the Greystone Development site at 225 4th Avenue, the coffee shop sits in front of the northbound Union Street R subway station between the 215 Fine Food Deli and Blink Fitness.

On Thursday evening, staff could be seen inside the shop setting up and putting finishing touches on the new space. A team member told BKLYNER the store is scheduled to open on Monday, July 16.

The new storefront joins another Starbucks opened at 470 4th Avenue (at 11th Street) last year. This will be the company’s fifth location in Park Slope/Gowanus. There are two on 7th Avenue (one between Garfield & 1st and another at 9th Street) and one at Park Place and Flatbush. [Update: A reader noted there is also a Starbucks inside the Barnes & Noble at 267 7th Avenue.]

The stretch of 4th Avenue where the new Starbucks will open is currently short on cafés with the closest spot being Root Hill Cafe one block south on the corner of Carroll Street or 9th Street Espresso inside Threes Brewing located three blocks north on Douglass Street.

Greystone purchased the two adjoining 4th Avenue properties, 225 and 227 (the former Brooklyn Lyceum building), in 2014, opening a Blink gym in the latter last year and currently constructing a 12-story, 63-unit luxury rental residence above the new Starbucks.
