Star Wars: The Force Awakens To Play At Manhattan Beach Park
Southern Brooklyn sci-fi fans, get ready to geek out.
City Councilman Chaim Deutsch announced he’s put together a free drive-in movie screening for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” at Manhattan Beach Park. The show starts on April 27 at 7pm at the parking lot near Oriental Boulevard and Irwin Street.
The movie, which is the latest installment of the beloved sci-fi franchise, smashed box office records when it opened in theaters in December — taking in $238 million during the first weekend, according to the New York Times.
Fans anticipated the film to be an improvement over the widely-reviled “prequels.” The new Star Wars film, the first to not be directed by the series creator George Lucas, takes place years after Luke, Han, and Leia have blown up the death star and killed the emperor. The new director, J.J. Abrams also relied less on computer generated graphic to revive the tone of the original movies.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is scheduled to be released on DVD April 5. However, for those who want to travel to a galaxy far, far away… doing so from the comfort of your car seems like an excellent spring activity.
Here’s the trailer for the movie (In case you’ve been hiding in a cave on Tatooine and haven’t seen it.)
