Hanging around the Slope for Memorial Day Weekend? With everything from robots to outdoor concerts, you won’t have to go far for fun! Check out some of our favorite events from around the neighborhood:

Wine, Cheese, And Summer Sandals
When: Thursday, May 22, 5-8pm
Where: A Shoe Grows In Brooklyn, 419 7th Avenue, between 13th and 14th Streets
What: Need a ladies night out? Make your way to A Shoe Grows in Brooklyn Thursday night for their Brian James Wine and Cheese event. Summer sandals will be unveiled, there will be raffles for a free manicure/pedicure, and they’re even giving away a couple of pairs of shoes.
How much: Free.

Cafe Be’ivrit
When: Thursday, May 22, 6-7:45pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: If you’re looking to brush up on, or even begin to learn Hebrew, join Kings Bay Y for a specialty workshop that will use fun activities to teach neighbors basic Hebrew words.
How much: Free.

Animal Encounter
When: Thursdays and Fridays, 3-4pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Want to learn more about the animals at Prospect Park’s Audubon Center? Whether getting to know Snappy the Turtle, watching a snake eat a mouse, or actually taking part in a feeding, kids are sure to have an absolute blast.
How much: Free.

Family Movie
When: Friday, May 23, 3:30-5:30pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: We’ve got another damp Friday in the forecast, but our Park Slope Library will be at the ready with a family movie and craft afternoon. This week, it’s going to be minion madness with Despicable Me.
How much: Free.

History In Your Hands: Fleece Fun
When: Saturdays and Sundays through May 31, 2-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Ever wondered how wool was used on a Colonial farm? Visit Lefferts House weekends in May to brush wool with carding paddles, spin yarn using a drop spindle, and even make a felt ball to take home with you. Ewe won’t want to miss it!
How much: $3 suggested donation

Obsolete Cinema Presents Robots In Love
When: Sunday, May 25, 2pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Have you found yourself missing Steve Guttenberg lately? Reconnect at Freddy’s on Sunday as Obsolete Cinema presents Short Circuit, along with the Andy Kaufman and Bernadette Peters classic Heartbeeps. In addition to the movies, look for trivia, prizes, and lots of drink specials.
How much: No cover.

Memorial Day In Prospect Park
When: Monday, May 25
Where: Prospect Park
What: It’s hard to believe, but Memorial Day is almost here, and whether you’re snagging the perfect picnic spot, taking an introductory course in bird watching (free at the Audubon Center from 1 to 4pm), or planting potatoes at Lefferts House ($3 suggested donation from 12pm to 5pm), there’s no better place to celebrate the unofficial start to summer than Prospect Park

Memorial Day At Green-Wood Cemetery
When: Monday, May 25, 2:30-5:30pm
Where: Green-Wood Cemetery, 25th Street and 5th Avenue
What: Nothing says Memorial Day in our neck of the woods like the annual concert in Green-Wood Cemetery. Bring the family out for music from the ISO Symphonic Band, led by founder and conductor Brian P. Worsdale, which will play the works of Green-Wood’s permanent residents Fred Ebb, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, Leonard Bernstein, and many others. Afterward, Green-Wood historian Jeff Richman will give a special trolley tour which you can register for online here.
How Much: The concert is free, but the trolley tour is $10 for Green-Wood Members and $15 for non-members
