South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: January 5-8
Don’t wait until this weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from open mic comedy and trivia, to live music and “booty shaping workouts,” South Slope is definitely the place to be through Thursday. Here are some of our favorite events from around the area:
Quarter Life Crisis Comedy Open Mic
When: Monday, January 5, 7pm
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Make your way to Supercollider for open mic comedy laughs as the 4th Avenue bar hosts their first Quarter Life Crisis of 2015. If you’d like to test out your material, signup starts at 7pm.
How much: Free.
Tropical Vortex Monday
When: Monday, January 5, 9:30pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street and 6th Avenue
What: Counteract Tuesday’s snowy forecast with tropical rhythms at Barbes. This week, it’s a “melange of Salsa, Afro-Cuban Rumba, Boleros, and Cumbia,” as Yotoco takes the stage.
How much: $10 strongly suggested donation.
Trivia At The Monro
When: Tuesday, January 6, 8:30pm
Where: The Monro Pub, 481 5th Avenue, between 11th and 12th Streets
What: Feel like a bit of trivia? Get the to The Monro Pub. It’s $1 to play, winner takes all, plus there are a number of other fantabulous prizes awarded throughout the game.
How much: $1 to play.
Shape Up NYC: Glutes In Gear
When: Wednesday, January 7, 6-7pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Looking for a belly-busting, booty shaping workout? This two-part class focuses on high-endurance cardio and mat work to build your core, and flatten and tighten your abs and glutes. No registration is required, but be sure to bring your own mat.
How much: Free.
JANET Comedy Improv
When: Wednesday, January 7, 7pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: “Come make silly” with the improv players of JANET at Freddy’s on Wednesday night. Feeling adventurous? Players of all levels are welcome to step up and join in the fun. Afterward, stick around for karaoke at 9pm.

Shape Up NYC: Dance Fitness
When: Thursday, January 8, 10am-11am
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Shake your groove thing at the Audubon Center on Thursday and get into shape. This new total-body workout class “uses easy-to-follow dance steps to increase cardiovascular fitness and tone the body.”
How much: Free.
