Trolley Tracks Through the Cracks

Have you seen the trolley tracks in Park Circle? Those of you interested in the history of the Brooklyn commute know that our streets have been used for trolleys of all sorts. Forgotten NY has an interesting set of photos about various trolleys around Brooklyn including our very own Trolley #68, precursor to the B68 bus.

Church Avenue was home to the last regular streetcar route in Brooklyn, according to Gary Fonville. The #8 and #13 lines lasted until October 31, 1956.

“The odd widening of Church Avenue for a couple of blocks on either side of Ocean Parkway was for a trolley tunnel that ran under the Parkway,” says Fonville. A commenter noted that the tunnel has been sealed up for decades with no visible traces remaining.
