Openings and Coming Soon – Ditmas Park, Kensington, PLG, Flatbush

DITMAS PARK – Honey Nail Salon will be taking over this beautiful spot at 1414 Cortelyou Road, across from the Flatbush Food Coop. I was hoping for a food spot, given we already have quite a few nail places around here, but its likely too close to PS139 to get a full liquor license making it a more difficult proposition. It looks like this is the 4th spot for the Honey chain, and it will be close by the other upscale nail salon on the strip – Element.

Wellzen Beauty Lounge is coming to 593 Flatbush

PROSPECT LEFFERTS – Element Beauty Salon is on a roll as well, expanding to Prospect Lefferts Gardens with their concept, except their 8th location at 593 Flatbush Avenue will be called WellZen. It should open in April, we are told.

PROSPECT LEFFERTS GARDENSWild Seed Honey Badger’s neighbor – on Fenimore just off Flatbush are still waiting on the pre-inspection, the owners tell us, and are hoping to open in about 10 days. Wild Seed will be a small artisanal provision market where everything is either made by hand in house, or bought in bulk from local farmers, passing on savings to the community. They will have a couple of tables for quick bite. The hours will be between 7am-7pm.

KENSINGTON/DITMAS PARK – Twig Terrariums have relocated from 3rd Avenue in Gowanus to 642 Coney Island Avenue (at Slocum Place) as the result of the never ending infrastructure repairs in the neighborhood, and are opening this Friday at 12-noon. They are still unpacking, current hours are expected to be 12-7pm or so, but will adjust to serve the needs of the neighborhood.

KENSINGTON/DITMAS PARK – Las Damas’s at 507 Coney Island Avenue (at Turner Place) has been replaced by Tacos El Catrin, who have relocated from Church and East 7th location, but it looks like it will be a deli/grocery. The two locations always had the same owners.

KENSINGTON/DITMAS PARK – Just in time fro spring, a new bike store I&M#2 has opened on Church Avenue between E7th and E8th Streets, next door to the amazing Der Pioneer cafe/bakery.

DITMAS PARK – The old lawyer’s office at 1501 Newkirk Avenue looks like will become Liberty Chemists, a Drugstore. Located across the street from Rite Aid, this makes us wonder just what the margins are in the business.

On the other side of the check cashing place, at 1505 Newkirk Avenue, renovations are underway, with lots of attention to detail, but we have not been able to confirm who’s coming in a bar or a coffee shop, or maybe – a bar and coffee shop? Given that the nearest bar is Ox Cart, a bar would do well here.

DITMAS PARK – El Fogon at 1017 Cortelyou road (between Coney and Stratford) closed a little while ago, and we have some good news for lovers of a good burger, but hold tight, as we have promised not to spill all the beans just yet. We are excited though!!

FLATBUSH – Jus Fishy & Beyond is promising to open soon at 1059 Flatbush Avenue at Beverley, former spot of Splash. They have one other store at 555 Flatbush, called Jus Fishy.

DITMAS PARK – Yah Suh Nyce at 1205 Church Avenue (between Westminster and Argyle) is following in the footsteps of Richie Rich, but we do hope they will open at some point.

DITMAS PARK – Yellow Belly – the naan taco spot on Cortelyou road between E16th and E17th is finally sort of open, after 3 years. They seem to be giving away free food to whomever can catch them open.

Let us know whom we missed.
