New No Standing Anytime Sign Installed Where It’s Not Needed

This past Wednesday morning, the city installed a new No Standing Anytime sign on the south corner of DeKoven Court at Rugby Road, and later that day, two cars parked in those newly eliminated spots had parking tickets.

It’s hard to even see the new sign, hidden behind the leaves, but there it is. Worse yet, while neighbors have been working to get some new traffic safety measures enacted in that area, the addition of this sign was not one of their requests, nor would it ever have been.

What is needed at this corner is “daylighting,” where parking spots are taken away to increase visibility for pedestrians and drivers. The spots that the city removed are on the wrong side of the street–traffic is one-way on Rugby, so drivers coming out of DeKoven need to see the traffic that’s flowing south, meaning the spaces should be removed on the north corner, or even better, on Rugby at the corner.
