New Aarpan Closed, New Indian Restaurant In Its Place?

A neighbor tipped us off to New Aarpan at 396 5th Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets being closed for renovations a few weeks ago, but also noted that there was a sign being covered up in the door.

The sign in the window which was covered up by a restaurant napkin states that the restaurant has been closed by the Health Department.

According to records filed with the Department of Buildings, the owners also failed to fix serious building code violations, including blocking fire escape for the upper floors of the building.

Now it looks like the location has a new sign and there has been work going on, but no building permits have been filed. The restaurant opened as New Aarpan under new management last September and had been getting mixed reviews since.

We’re wondering if this is a new owner or if the current owners are trying to reopen the restaurant under a new name. Efforts to reach out to the restaurant went unanswered.
