Need To Get Rid Of Those Bagged Leaves? Here’s Where You Can Find Composting Sites In Our Neighborhood

Looking for somewhere in the neighborhood to drop those final bags of autumn leaves? Or maybe you want to get rid of some food scraps? You can do so at the following composting locations:

Compost for Brooklyn
Where: Newkirk Avenue & E. 8th Street
When: Every Thursday from 2-4pm in December; Saturday, December 13; Saturday, December 27; Sunday, December 7; Sunday, December 21
Items accepted: Leaves and garden trimmings (both of which need to be in a clear plastic or brown paper bags) and residential food scraps, such as potato peels, apple cores, coffee grinds, tea leaves, etc. They do not accept dairy, meat, bones, lawn clippings, coconut shells, or compostable dinnerware.

Cortelyou Greenmarket
Where: Cortelyou Road between Argyle and Rugby Roads
When: Every Sunday, 8am-1pm
Items accepted: Food scraps and leaves (leaves must be in clear plastic or brown paper bags).

Flatbush CommUNITY Garden
Where: 1550 Albemarle Road, at Buckingham Road
When: For members only on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, 7am-7pm

Church Avenue Communal Garden
Where: Behind the Flatbush Reformed Church at Kenmore Terrace and East 21st Street
