Midwood Man Sentenced To 10 Years For Sexually Abusing Teen

A judge sentenced a Midwood man to 10 years in prison Friday for repeatedly sexually abusing a teenager over three years, according to a press release from the office of Acting U.S. Attorney Kelly Curry.

Authorities say Andrew Goodman, of Midwood, began molesting the youth in 2006, when the victim was 12 years old. For the next three years, Goodman called the teenager to demand sex several times a week.

“Goodman enticed his young victim with gifts and plied the victim with alcohol. We will take every measure to protect our nation’s most vulnerable individuals from predators such as he,” Currie said in the press release.

Goodman’s prison time will be followed by 10 years of supervised released. He will also be required to register as a sex offender. He pleaded guilty to the charges in January.

Goodman already served two years in prison after being convicted in New York State on 48 counts of sexually abusing the same teen, as well as another minor, according to the press release.

Goodman’s abuse was uncovered during a three-year crackdown by the Brooklyn DA’s office on child predators in the Orthodox Jewish community. The initiative busted 85 child molesters, all but two of whom were men, and involved 117 victims, according the New York Post.

The post reported Goodman filmed sex acts with minors on his webcam, offered alcohol and pills to youngsters at midnight sex parties in his home and threatened one youngster who reported the abuse to authorities.

When Goodman was released on $10,000 bail after his arrest in July, 2011, according to the Post, he continued to sneak young boys into his home in the middle of the night. The judge later raised his bail to $1 million, cash only, after being told of surveillance video that showed the minors entering Goodman’s home, The Post reports.

State Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz, after hearing in July 2012 that Goodman might only receive a two-year sentence, sent a letter to the judge urging that the sexual predator be given more prison time.
