In Like A Lion: Three Deaths Mar First Weekend in March
EAST FLATBUSH – A man was killed on Saturday evening at a gender reveal party when gunfire broke out, said police. The shooting also left three other victims wounded.
Police responded to the call just after 6:00 pm on Saturday, March 3, arriving to the scene at Kings Highway and East 53rd Street. There, officers found the body of a man in his 20s, shot in the chest and thigh, said police. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
As police investigated, they found three other men in the area that had been wounded in the shooting: a 26-year old shot in the chest, a 34-year old shot in the buttocks, and a 25-year old grazed across the chest. All the victims were transported to Kings County Hospital for treatment and are expected to survive, said police.
While police were questioning a witness at the scene, but so far, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
PROSPECT PARK – Later that evening, police found a body of a man in the wooded area near Prospect Park West and 9th Streets, near the Prospect Park Band Shell.
A 49-year old man was found lying on the grass, unconscious and unresponsive, with no apparent trauma to his body, said police. EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, and identification of the deceased is being withheld until the family has been notified.
BED-STUY – Finally, a man found dead in a Bed-Stuy apartment last Thursday has been ruled a homicide, police confirmed this morning.
Police responded to a call of an unconscious man on the first floor of a Monroe Street apartment, at Malcolm X Boulevard, around 1:00 am on Thursday, March 1. 65-year old Mack Wilson was discovered at the address, with trauma to his body, said police. EMS transported the man to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
