A 44-year old woman stabbed a police officer in the arm in an apartment building on East 18th Street late this morning, police said.

The stabbing occurred when police responded to a 911 call about an emotionally disturbed woman just after 11am. When officers arrived at the fourth floor apartment at 145 East 18th Street, they were met by a social worker. The social worker was visiting the woman in the apartment, according to police.

After the officers arrived, the suspect allegedly stabbed one of them, a lieutenant, in the left forearm with a kitchen knife. The woman was subdued and taken to Maimonides Hospital where she is listed in stable condition. The officer was taken to Kings County Hospital and is also in stable condition.

The names of the suspect and the wounded officer have not been released by the Police Department.
