Hockey Season Starting Soon – Sign Your Kid Up Now

As the wonderful warm summer weather departs, northern hemisphere parents are surely starting to worry about being cooped up with hyperactive adolescents all winter once soccer season has ended. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Or be a hockey mom/dad. If your kid is between 5-11, you’re in luck. Registration for local co-ed league The Brooklyn Blades is currently open. No hockey experience is necessary, though an ability to skate helps.

There are a few catches. Because the Prospect Park ice skating rink is closed this winter, practices will take place at the Aviator Sports Complex, out by Floyd Bennett Field. Also, there’s a price to be paid: $375 for registration, and then there’s the price of equipment. New, it’ll run you north of $400, but you can cobble together used equipment for half that. There are tons of kids with used stuff in good condition.
