Hear World-Renowned Musicians Perform At Our Lady Of Refuge Church Tomorrow Night

Tomorrow night, neighbors will have a chance to hear two world-renowned musicians perform at Our Lady of Refuge Church (2020 Foster Avenue). There are still tickets available – and while you can also get them at the door, you get a discount if you purchase them online here.

Friday evening’s concert, which is the first in a three-part series at OLR, will feature John Thiessen, a baroque trumpeter from the Juilliard School, and Craig Cramer, an organist from the University of Notre Dame. It begins at 7:30pm.

The concert will include music from the church’s beautifully restored 1930s pipe organ, and you can hear the organ being played here and here. You can also hear Cramer work his magic here and listen to a gorgeous performance by Thiessen here.

Our Lady of Refuge Pipe Organ Delivery: Keys

Thiessen, who was described by the New York Times as “the gold standard of Baroque trumpet playing,” appears regularly  as a soloist and principal trumpet with North America’s foremost early music ensembles, including the Tafelmusik, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Juilliard Baroque, Trinity Baroque Orchestra, Boston Early Music Festival, and Early Music Vancouver.

A musician who has performed across the world, Cramer holds degrees from Westminster Choir College and the Eastman School of Music, where he earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ Performance. He has won numerous national contests, including the National Organ Competition in Indiana and the Alexander McCurdy Competition in Organ Performance at Westminster Choir College. He has appeared as a soloist with the Toledo Symphony, the South Bend Chamber Orchestra, and the Notre Dame Symphony Orchestra, among others.

Tickets for the concerts are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
