Grenade Found In Gerritsen Beach Apartment Building, Cops Say
The NYPD’s Bomb Squad was called to a Gerritsen Beach apartment building Tuesday morning after a worker discovered a grenade inside a storage box containing other WWII relics, according to police.
Officer were called to the residence, a co-op building on Burnett Street near Avenue U, at 11:20am, authorities say. They quickly determined the explosive device, which “looks like it says ‘practice’ on it,” was inert and harmless, according to the NYPD.
The box was discovered in a storage room in the building’s basement and contained other items from the Second World War, police say
The building’s superintendent found the grenade while cleaning items out of a recently deceased tenant’s apartment, News 12 Brooklyn reports.
