A 22-year-old Walt Whitman Houses resident will now be living at least another life-time in prison, after being sentenced to 22 years to life for the 2014 murder of a neighbor back on April 14, 2014.

Shaquille Upson of North Portland Avenue had been convicted earlier this month on charges of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon — for killing 42-year-old Armal Mallory, of nearby North Oxford Walk, with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, leg, and neck at around 12:10am two years ago.

“Keeping the residents of Brooklyn safe from senseless gun violence is my top priority,” said Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson. “This case shows our resolve to punish anyone who uses guns to settle scores.”

Upson’s arrest followed an investigation by detectives from the 88th Precinct and the Brooklyn North Homicide Squad, with help from a witness and video surveillance, as well as Upson’s own “incriminating Facebook post and an incriminating phone call from Rikers Island.”
