DUMBO Named Brooklyn’s Most Dog-Friendly Neighborhood
In honor of National Dog Day tomorrow, real estate website StreetEasy and Rover, a nationwide dog walking and pet sitting network, conducted a study to find the best neighborhoods for dogs and dog-owners in New York City.
The study was based on the number of pet-friendly rentals listed on StreetEasy (from January to July 2017) and the number of dog sitters recorded by Rover (from June to July 2017). The study also factored in the number of dog parks, dog runs, off-leash areas, and veterinary services in each neighborhood.
Battery Park City topped the list of ten neighborhoods with the highest amount of dog-friendly rental buildings, according to the survey. DUMBO represented Brooklyn, coming in second on the list.
Columbia Street Waterfront District came in at number six, while Downtown Brooklyn finished off the list at the number ten spot, boasting the most diverse breeds of all the neighborhoods.
Broken down by borough, the study found that the top five dog-friendly neighborhoods in Brooklyn are DUMBO (which has 7 dog parks), Columbia Street Waterfront District (where pit bull mixes are the most popular pups), Downtown Brooklyn, Seagate, and Brooklyn Heights.
The study also ranked New York City’s top ten breeds, with puny pups taking the top honors—Yorkshire Terriers were the most popular, followed by Shih Tzus and Chihuahuas—all practical, and adorable, choices for the city’s typically small living quarters.
