Ditmas History: Foster, Before
foster avenue between marlborough and rugby

Here’s a look at modern-day Foster between Rugby and Marlborough Rds–a place where you can get some physical therapy or dental work from Prime Medical Care before picking up your shrimp and snow peas from New Nice Chinatown. Kabir’s Bakery is on the west corner, and Key Food‘s further east–but what was on the strip in 1961?

This photo from Brooklyn Visual Heritage shows a whole array of different shops–some “Prime Meats” where New Nice Chinatown is now, Biltrite Shoes and Edward’s TV sharing a storefront, Ledermans Bakery next door to where Kabir’s Bakery currently resides, and the Kabir’s space as a laundromat.

Any longtime neighbors have memories of the shops as they once were?
