Discuss The Future Of Gowanus At Gowanus Canal Conservancy Meeting
Join local residents, businesses, and other community partners for one of a series of forums to discuss the future of public green space in Gowanus on Tuesday, August 18 at 7pm.
The forum, which is being held at the Old Stone House (336 3rd Avenue), is being facilitated by the Gowanus Canal Conservancy in partnership with the Old Stone House and the Forth on Fourth Avenue committee of the Park Slope Civic Council.
“While there are ongoing discussions about zoning, housing, clean-up and commerce in Gowanus, there hasn’t been planning for potential open spaces that would be created if the area is rezoned,” explains Andrea Parker, executive director of the Gowanus Canal Conservancy.
A full rezoning of the area around the Gowanus Canal would trigger waterfront access requirements, which require new developments in the area to provide public waterfront access.
The Gowanus Canal Conservancy plans to host forums throughout the neighborhood this fall in order to gather information on community priorities for green space in the neighborhood. They will then take the information gathered and create possible plans that the community will be able to critique.
The Conservancy will work with agencies and other neighborhood partners to figure out how to implement the plans.
