Cast Your Vote For Proposed District 39 Participatory Budgeting Projects
If you live within the confines of City Council District 39, get excited–this week, you can help Councilmember Brad Lander spend $1 million in discretionary funds through Participatory Budgeting. All district residents 16 and older are welcome, regardless of immigration status or whether they are registered to vote with the Board of Elections–just bring a form of ID that shows where you live. Here’s what’s on the ballot this year:
- Add a green roof to the Windsor Terrace Library ($250,000)
- Add solar panels to the roof of the Engine 240 and Battalion 28 Firehouse ($140,000)
- Safety improvements (including sidewalk expansion) at the intersection of McDonald Avenue and Fort Hamilton Parkway ($300,000)
- Installation of security cameras around the district, particularly near Prospect Park ($200,000)
- Repairing and improving three Prospect Park pathways ($215,000)
- Obtain laptops for third to fifth grade students at PS 130 and PS 321, as well as for the ELL adult program at PS 230 ($195,000)
- Obtain 24 smartboards for classrooms at PS 29 and PS 131 ($140,000)
- Installation of 12 bus location signs at B67 and B69 stops ($240,000)
- A media van for community filmmakers–and film lovers–to show over 50 public screenings per year ($45,000)
- Repaving and repairing the basketball court at Ennis Playground ($250,000)
- Safety improvements and sitting areas on 4th Avenue from 8th Street to 18th Street ($300,000)
- Creation of an outdoor plaza at the John Jay Educational Campus in Park Slope ($150,000)
- Obtain an industrial shredder for the Gowanus Composting Center ($105,000)
Neighbors can vote at Councilmember Lander’s District Office (456 5th Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets) from 7:30am-8pm daily until Thursday, April 3. Then on Saturday, April 5, you can vote at the nearby PS 230 Lower School (425 McDonald Avenue between Church Avenue and Albemarle Road) from 10am-7pm; and on Sunday, April 6, at the nearby Kings Bay Y at Windsor Terrace (1224 Prospect Avenue between Vanderbilt Street and Reeve Place) from 10am-5pm.
