BREAKING: Stabbing, Beating On Ave T In Homecrest
UPDATE [1:32 p.m.]: News 12 is reporting that three people were stabbed in the attack. A witness told reporters that the assailants hid behind a construction fence, and when the victim came out of his home and headed to his company car, the attackers ambushed him. They pulled out bats and knives, and the victim’s two co-workers attempted to break up the fight, but they found themselves dragged into it.
A blood trail extends for an entire block, ending at a bloodied shirt. Police are still hunting for the suspects.
Original story:
At least one man was stabbed and another one beaten in what may have been a gang-related attack on Avenue T, between East 24th Street and Bedford Avenue.
“If you’ve seen West Side Story, this was West Side Story,” a witness to the attack told our tipster.
According to the witness, six people with bats and knives began attacking a man, who attempted to get to the safety of his car. The witness’ neighbor, a friend of the victim, tried to intervene and was stabbed in the back.
It appears at least some of the suspects may have been caught by NYPD as they attempted to flee on foot, but this is unconfirmed. The stabbing victim appears to have survived the attack, but his condition is unknown at this time.
A heavy police presence is in the area, and Avenue T remains closed off as of 10:20 a.m. Police are canvassing the area.
We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
