BREAKING: Major Accident At Ocean Ave, Ave J In Midwood Hospitalizes 10

UPDATE (11:53 a.m.): NBC is reporting 12 hurt, nine with serious injuries.

UPDATE (11:39 a.m.): NYBuff.com is reporting that 10 people were hospitalized in all, none with life-threatening injuries. Daily News photographer Todd Maisel reports 11, and also has some photos in his Twitter stream.

NYBuff.com adds that the cause of the accident is under investigation, and it’s unclear if the bus struck (or was struck by) any vehicles before hitting the building.

UPDATE (11:21 a.m.): The other vehicle involved in the crash was a Jewish Association Serving the Aging (JASA) home deliver truck. There was also at least one other car involved – a black four-door sedan. That makes this a three-vehicle and one-building accident.

Original story:

We’ve just received word from a reader in Midwood that an MTA bus slammed into an apartment building on the corner of Avenue J and Ocean Avenue.

It appears the bus was traveling west on Avenue J when it collided with another vehicle, careened off the road, onto the sidewalk and into the building. The B6 and B11 both run down that section of Avenue J.

We’re told the other car is a small white truck, and has been flipped onto the driver’s side. Our tipster said the intersection has debris in the middle of it, about 20 feet away from where the vehicles came to rest.

FDNY and hatzolah have responded to the scene and are transporting an unknown number of people to the hospital for minor injuries.
