Blood Donations Needed at Methodist

Methodist Hospital required over 6,600 units of blood last year, but only 2,300 units were collected at the hospital. Thankfully, you can help them keep up the constant demand.

If you’re between the ages of 17 and 75, weigh at least 110 pounds and have not donated blood in the last 56 days, consider dropping a pint at the Wesley House, 501 6th Street, Room 6E. Never donated before? It’s super easy:

You should eat a regular meal on the day of your donation. Remember to bring identification. At the donation site you will be asked to provide basic information about yourself, such as name, address, and phone number. The Donor Center staff will check your pulse, blood pressure, temperature, and hemoglobin level. We will also ask you a few questions about your medical history.
The actual process of donating blood takes only 5 to 10 minutes. One unit of blood (about one pint) will be collected.
After the collection process, we provide refreshments and the opportunity to rest. Your body starts to replenish its blood supply almost immediately. Drink extra fluids for the first twenty-four hours after donating. You will receive a donor’s card with your blood type and total cholesterol level results about three weeks.

As one of four permanent donation centers in Brooklyn, it’s easy to find a time that works with your schedule. For more information, please visit the hospital’s donor website.
