We have to thank neighbor Brian Duprey for posting this Instagram photo and inspiring us to go check out Hartwell Vegetarian’s (1017 Cortelyou Road, by Coney Island Avenue) vegan soft serve frozen yogurt — we know where we’ll be going to escape the heat this summer!

Hartwell has lots of scrumptious desserts — vegan carrot cake, brownies and cheesecake, to name a few — but with Memorial Day coming up and summer’s impending debut, we had our sights set on something frozen.

The eatery has two types of vegan soft serves — coconut and mango, and there are also numerous toppings to add, including fresh fruit, Oreo sprinkles, chocolate drizzle, maple agave syrup, cinnamon, rainbow sprinkles, coconut flakes, and more.

We decided to try a coconut frozen yogurt with chocolate drizzle and rainbow sprinkles, as well as a coconut yogurt with coconut flakes.

The consensus? Delicious! They tasted fresh and light — something that would go perfectly after a family hang-out at the Tot Lot or before heading over to Celebrate Brooklyn. Plus, if you’re not a toppings fan, the coconut yogurt is good enough to eat on its own — though we’re always fans of adding chocolate to coconut whenever possible.

As for the next time we head over there, we’re looking forward to trying the mango.

What about you all? Where’s your favorite place to grab something cold in the neighborhood during the hot summer days?
