Beloved Soccer Coach Magnus Mukoro Will Receive A Memorial Plaque At Brooklyn Tech Field
Living without Magnus Mukoro these past three months has been hard on those who knew and loved him in our community, but hopefully the new plaque being installed in his honor at the Brooklyn Tech Field (510 Clermont Avenue) where he and his mini-soccer stars of Young Rock Soccer Academy practiced will lend a sense that he continues to watch over us all.The plaque unveiling ceremony is scheduled for this Sunday, October 25 at 11am and is open to the public, so all of Magnus’ friends and family and welcome. The event will be presided over by neighbor and Public Advocate Letitia James.“Magnus spent his entire career helping others – first as a paralegal at Legal Aid Society, and then as most knew him, as the founder and a coach at Young Rock Soccer,” James said in a statement. “Magnus was one of the most selfless and genuine people I’ve ever had the chance to know, and was truly devoted to his community.”“In a short period of time, he became one of the favorite people in my life and is my son’s first and favorite soccer coach,” said Clinton Hill mom Melissa Smith. “I was looking for a soccer league and my friend said ‘Magnus’ — not even the name of the league! He’s one of the most wonderful and personable people. He was someone who could encourage, motivate, and teach.”Asked what she loves about Magnus, 15-year-old Marley Phipps described him as “Calm,” “patient,” “well-dressed,” “passionate,” and “a great hugger.”See you Sunday.
