Be On The Lookout For A Cortelyou Road Bike Thief

A man was caught on camera stealing a bike locked up on a busy stretch of Cortelyou Road on a recent summer evening, and the owner is hoping you can help recover the bike and catch the crook.

Our own Ned Berke, editor of Sheepshead Bites and Bensonhurst Bean, had locked his bike up in front of 1014 Cortelyou Road, between Stratford Rd and Coney Island Ave, on Thursday, August 28, only to return a few hours later to find the bike gone, and the remnants of the cut lock on the ground.

The police responded fairly quickly (compared to other accounts we’ve heard), and he filed a report, but cops left it up to him to acquire video surveillance footage from a business on the block. The business owner was able to provide the still image above, which, from the video –which he is still waiting for — shows the thief took the bike at about 8pm.

Ned describes the bike as a 2005 Giant Rincon hybrid, silver with a green accent, which looks like the one in this photo (except the little bit of blue you see in the pic on his was green).

If you have any information about the bike or this crime, your can contact Ned at nedberke@gmail.com and Officer Leon at the 70th Precinct at 718-851-5511.
