For over a quarter of a century the Brooklyn Arts Exchange (affectionately known as BAX) has been running its popular Summer Arts Program for young artists entering kindergarten to 6th Grade.

“It’s a unique opportunity for kids to be exposed to several different forms of the performing arts, which are taught by expert specialists in a low pressure and fun environment,” says BAX education director Lucia Scheckner.

Drawing on BAX’s year-round critically acclaimed education programs, the Summer Arts Program provides expert instruction in a range of specialties, including dance, tumbling, theater, music, and visual art, with an emphasis on cultivating creative expression. Working with professional artists in a playful environment, participants explore the performing arts as creators, performers, and audience-members, developing improvisation, performance, and collaborative skills.

“My son had a wonderful camp experience. He adores his counselors and counselors-in-training (CITs). He really responded well to the gentle approach to dealing with any discipline issues. He said that one day he’d like to become a CIT. We’ll be back for sure.” — Parent
