After City Withdraws Proposal To Remove Green-Wood Cemetery From Landmarks List, Plan Released For Reviewing Backlog
The Landmarks Preservation Commission has finally released a plan to deal with the backlog of properties, after the Commission withdrew their plan to remove 98 properties awaiting landmark status from their list — including Green-Wood Cemetery, St. Augustine’s Church on 6th Avenue, and Lady Moody’s House in Gravesend — in December.
The Commission will hold four special hearings this fall for the backlogged properties on October 8, October 22, and November 12. Brooklyn properties, including St. Augustine’s Church, will be discussed at the October 8 hearing.
Beginning today there will be a minimum three-month review period, during which interested parties can review background materials on each backlog item. Throughout this period, the public may submit written statements to backlog95@lpc.nyc.gov, which will be entered into the record and distributed to Commissioners.
In order to conduct efficient hearings, the Commission asks that speakers register and submit written statements in advance. Interested parties that are not able or do not want to attend the hearing may submit written statements.
