Video: Thieves Have Shopping Lists for Tires, Rims

Sergeant Doyle of the 61st Precinct’s Community Affairs division touched on car theft and party boat issues during his monthly report to the Sheepshead Bay / Plumb Beach Civic Assocation’s April meeting.

Doyle discussed the rash of auto break-ins, saying it’s always the hottest issue at meetings. The NYPD recently made 18 arrests for auto break-in crimes in our area, and in 2009 they had a total of 60 arrests.

In the video, Doyle also gives a list of the types of cars being targeted for rim and tire theft, so be sure to check it out and see if your car is on thieves’ shopping lists. [Minute 2:20]

Doyle also revealed that Captain Pete, operator of the Sheryll Princess and another large party boat that just arrived in the bay, invited him to a safety seminar for his crews two weeks ago. Doyle said the NYPD and the boaters are trying to work together to reduce complaints about disorderly conduct and public drunkenness when the boats disembark. Last year, such coordination resulted in a reduction of complaints, Doyle said.

The next 61st Precinct Community Council meeting is Wednesday, April 14 at Homecrest Presbyterian Church (1413 Avenue T) at 7:30 p.m.
