The Navy Yard‘s transformation is becoming downright revolutionary.

1776, a start up incubator based out of Washington D.C., is coming to the top floor of Building 77 in the Navy Yard in 2017.

“Attracting 1776 to Building 77 will lead to many cutting-edge startups locating at the Yard and make a great addition to our existing culture of cross-sector innovation and collaboration,” said the CEO and President of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, David Ehrenberg.

1776 was founded in 2013 by Donna Harris and Evan Burfeld, and it already has campuses in Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Dubai. As a start-up incubator, 1776 identifies tech companies and provides them with the backing necessary to grow. The New York office will be led by Rachel Haot, the former Chief Digital Officer of New York City.

“Partnering with 1776 at the Navy Yard is a big step toward achieving our goal of making our city the global capital of the new innovation economy,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Building 77 received over $100 million from Mayor de Blasio’s administration and is a centerpiece of the effort to rejuvenate the Navy Yard. It will have over 1,000,000 square-feet of space and it’s projected to create over 3,000 jobs.

Building 77 has seen an influx of new major tenants, such as Russ & Daughters and the Brooklyn Brewery.
