15-Year-Old Accused Of Murdering Family Placed In Protective Custody After Miscarriage
More tragic news for the troubled teenager accused of a bloody double-homicide in the Sheepshead Bay Houses last year.
The Daily News reports that 15-year-old Destiny Garcia, who confessed to shooting and stabbing her mother and mother’s boyfriend in their apartment just before at the end of December, has been placed in protective custody after having a miscarriage. She was also harassed and threatened by some of the other inmates at the juvenile facility where she is held without bail, her lawyer told the news.
Garcia was reportedly impregnated by her 29-year-old boyfriend Jerry Maisonett, who faces a life sentence for allegedly participating in the horrific killings. Garcia’s family wants Maisonett charged with statutory rape for impregnating the teenager, according to the Daily News.
When Garcia was first interview by police about the murders, she claimed to have been sexually abused by her mom’s boyfriend. She later changed her story and said her mother beat her.
Maisonette allegedly provided Garcia with the gun and helped her finish off the boyfriend after Garcia shot her mother.
Garcia’s lawyer told reporters outside Brooklyn Supreme Court last week that “This is a very difficult situation for this young lady, she’s having a rough time.”
“It’s all a tragedy,” he added.
Garcia faces 30 years to life in prison if convicted. Maisonett could get 50 years to life, according to the Daily News.
