CEC district 22 rezoning meeting
When: Monday, October 17 at 6:30pm.
Where: PS 152 at 725 East 23nd Street between Glenwood Road and Campus Road.
What: Parents, educators and community members get one more chance to voice their concerns before the CEC votes on the District 22 rezoning plan, see the full proposal online here, and more about the issues here. Unable to attend? Watch our live video of the meeting here.

Free Creative Writing for Adults
When: Tuesday, October 18 at 6:15pm.
Where: Cortelyou Public Library, 1305 Cortelyou Road at Argyle Road.
What: Looking to hone your creative writing skills in a supportive environment? Or share your writing with a group of other writers? Join the New York Writers Coalition for this weekly class at the Cortelyou Library and find that writers community you’ve been looking for. (No prior experience necessary — that does sound supportive!)

Zadie Smith reads at Medgar Evers College
When: Thursday, October 20 at 7pm.
Where: Medgar Evers College, Founders Auditorium, 1650 Bedford Avenue between Crown & Montgomery Streets.
What: Acclaimed author Zadie Smith will read from and discuss her forthcoming novel, “Swing Time” at this free event, followed by a short discussion and a Q & A. Arrive early to get a spot.
How Much: Free

‘Unseen Green’ Green-Wood cemetery tour
When: Thursday, October 20 from 7:30pm to 9pm.
Where: Green-Wood Cemetery.
What: Come see artist Aaron Asis’s installations designed to highlight the perception and significance of being “unseen” in Green-Wood, kicks off with a two-week installation at Green-Wood’s Chapel. Photography encouraged until 8pm.
How Much: $15 for members of Green-Wood, $20 for non-members.

Scott Sharrard & the Brickyard Band at Bar Chord
When: Thursday, October 20 at 9pm
Where: Bar Chord, 10008 Cortelyou Road between Coney Island Avenue and Stratford Road.
What: Catch rising star Scott Sharrard, a blues sensation since he was a teenager and his band at Bar Chord.
How Much: No cover charge.

Live music at the Owl Music Parlor
When: Thursday, October 20 at 8pm (doors at 7:30).
Where: The Owl Music Parlor, 497 Rogers Avenue between Midwood and Maple Streets.
