Updated: Woman Killed & Four Others Injured After Early AM Fire On E 8th Street

A house fire at 293 E 8th Street has left one neighbor dead and several others injured, says a spokesman for the FDNY. The FDNY says the blaze was called in at 5:31am, and although firefighters were on scene at 5:35, the the fire continued to escalate, reaching second alarm status at 5:54. It was brought under control at 6:29am.

It was previously reported that one 26-year-old woman was killed in the fire, with her 28 and 16-year-old sisters being transported to area hospitals with critical injuries, and that a fourth person was also transported with minor injuries.

However, new reports as of 1:45pm say it was actually 16-year-old Jasmine Guillaume who was  tragically pronounced  dead on arrival at Maimonides Hospital, and that one 24-year-old woman was taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition as well as one 27-year-old woman taken to Cornell NY Presbyterian in critical condition. In addition, one 57-year-old woman and one 59-year-old woman were taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.

DNAInfo says the fire started on the second floor, and the three sisters were found in a bathroom on the third floor. The cause of the fire and Jasmine Guillaume’s cause of death are currently under investigation.
