Winter Music Events Brighten Up Tomorrow’s Solstice
Tomorrow may be the shortest day of the year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pack in some great music and dancing! On the winter solstice, Thursday, 21, the non-profit Make Music is featuring two musical events in Brooklyn for your holiday enjoyment.
First, Flatfoot Flatbush will parade down Flatbush Avenue with a group of “dancers, fiddlers and pickers” playing old-timey tunes and performing the percussive Appalachian dance known as “flatfooting.” The parade kicks off from 354 Flatbush Ave, near Grand Army Plaza, and will travel across Prospect Heights, with stops along the way for singing, dancing and audience participation. The event kicks off at sunset—a precise 4:32 pm—with an afterparty to follow.
Later, in Williamsburg, the contemporary classical JACK Quartet will play a new piece in total darkness at artist space National Sawdust, located on 80 North 6th Street, off Wythe Avenue. They’ll play the U.S. premiere of Georg Friedrich Haas’s String Quartet No. 9. The event is set for 7:00 pm.
