When Will Seth Low Park’s Tracks Be Open?
GRAVESEND – They look finished, and they look beautiful. The two new tracks and artificial turf ballfields, in addition to the exercise equipment have been tempting neighborhood kids for weeks now.
However, there are locks on the chain link fence, and the Parks Department says – the project is not finished yet, and the contractor has till March of 2018 to finish the work.
The Parks Department’s capital projects tracker lists the project – which is lumped together with the McKinley ball field renovation – as 92% complete.
Renovation of the entire park was done in phases, the hand ball courts reopened last December following and this last phase was delayed a bit – we reported back in May 2016:
“The third phase of the project, which involves the construction of two synthetic turf fields, one striped for soccer and one unmarked field for other activities, has been temporarily shelved because it had to be rebid, a Parks spokesperson said. The new projected completion date for the synthetic fields is fall 2017. They will cost a combined $1.9 million from Greenfield’s office and the Borough President’s office.”
In the meantime – good luck keeping the kids from enjoying the fields. The park is surrounded by the Seth Low middle school on one side, and the Lucretia Marcigliano Educational complex that is home to three other elementary through middle schools on the other. Who can blame them? Let’s hope the Parks Department can get the fields inspected soon and open them to be used by all.
