Why So Many Trees In Prospect Park Have Blue Dots On Them

If you’ve taken a walk through Prospect Park in the past few weeks, you may have noticed dozens of trees marked with blue dots — but don’t worry, all those trees have not been marked for removal.

Corinne Martin, Community Outreach and Press Coordinator for the Prospect Park Alliance, tells us that the dots were used for a tree survey they did this fall:

Every tree in the park was surveyed. A blue dot means the tree was put in for some sort of follow up action, either further inspection by a more skilled arborist or for corrective action (pruning of deadwood, etc.). In most cases it does not mean “slated for removal.”

After losing more than 500 trees because of Hurricane Sandy and a nor’easter, we are relieved that all these marked trees — some very large and mature — won’t be coming down, as well.
