Where Do You Shop for Groceries?

The big news in central Brooklyn this week is the closing of the Key Food in Windsor Terrace at the end of the month. If you’ve ever been over there, you’ll know that when the spot becomes a Walgreens, residents will be in something of a grocery desert.

And while we are pretty flush with options in Ditmas Park (good or bad, we still have options), neighbor Brenda Becker notes that she has relied on the WT Key Food over the years because of their convenient parking lot:

I go there a LOT for fill-in marketing between biweekly Fairway runs, not because the store’s any good (it’s not), but because they have a parking lot bigger than a postage stamp. (The C-Town on Church Ave has NO parking, of course, and the not-so-supermarkets on CIA near Cortelyou and McDonald near Caton both have lots so minuscule that I gave up on them after nearly being killed or whacked, or just pulling in as the last spot was taken.) The news is even worse for local residents without cars, of course. Wonder how many DP readers also depend on them?

So, drivers and non-drivers, where do you do your grocery shopping?

Is there anyplace near the neighborhood with a parking lot that’s manageable–the Stop & Shop off Flatbush, the ShopRite on McDonald at Ave I, the Target at the Junction? If you’re on foot or on bike, which is your choice supermarket–or do you go to different ones for different things? Or do you skip them all and order from Fresh Direct?
