What’s Your Favorite Corner?
Neighbor Brenda Becker has written a lot about her house on Marlborough Road, and how she and her husband came to buy it, on her Crazy Stable blog. One important part of that buying process was showing the “promising ruin” to relatives who came from outside of the city to see it before they closed. She’d give them a driving tour, starting south of her future home, showing the parts of the neighborhood that looked as grand in the ’80s as they do now. The tour reached its pinnacle as they approached the corner of Marlborough and Albemarle Roads, which remains a favorite of hers to this day.
“We’d drive slowly through what we still call the ‘magic land,'” she said. “We’d point to the house on the corner and say, ‘Doesn’t that look like Tara in Gone with the Wind?’ And then we’d floor it past our house, and tell them we’d live just a block from that.”
Brenda has lived here ever since, and says Ditmas Park is the only place for her.
“If I were to move anywhere, I would move one block south,” she said. “There isn’t anyplace else in the world I’d rather live than here.”
What’s your favorite corner in Ditmas Park? All this week, we’ll be asking neighbors about theirs–please join in the comments and share yours.
