What’s Open & Closed This Christmas In Kensington

Bows and greenery for Christmas

Christmas is just around the corner, and if you’ve decided to stick close to Kensington this Christmas, here’s a breakdown of what’s open, what’s closed, and what’s running on a different schedule.

Government Offices, Parking, and Sanitation (via nyc.gov)

Government offices, including the Department of Motor Vehicles, are closed. Courts are also closed. There is no mail delivery.

Public schools are closed Monday, December 23 through Wednesday, January 1.

On Wednesday, December 25, alternate side parking is suspended. You do not need to pay parking meters. No stopping, no standing and no parking regulations are suspended except where those regulations are in effect seven days a week or at all times.

There is no garbage or recycling pick-up. If Wednesday is your regular garbage collection day, put your garbage out after 4 PM Thursday evening. If Thursday is your regular recycling day, wait until next week to put out your recyclables.

The Staten Island Ferry runs on a holiday schedule. Boats run every 30 minutes between 7 AM and 11 PM. Normal service resumes after 11 PM.

Subways and Buses

While all trains will be running on a Sunday schedule on Christmas Day, the MTA is adding extra trains on Tuesday to help you get out of town–so go!
