What’s Open, Closed & Operating Different Hours In Ditmas Park This Independence Day

Break out the buns, franks, and fireworks — the Fourth of July weekend is right around the corner. If you’re sticking around the city to see the Macy’s fireworks display, which will launch from the East River, you may want to watch from a friend’s rooftop and avoid the crowds on the Brooklyn Promenade. Or make tracks to Coney Island for their 2nd annual Fourth of July fireworks show.

However, be sure to note that some city services will be closed through the long weekend.

Here’s what you need to know, via nyc.gov:

  • City government offices, IDNYC enrollment centers, libraries, and courts will be closed starting Friday. The DMV will close on Saturday.
  • There is mail delivery on Friday, but not on Saturday.
  • You will not need to pay parking meters and alternate side parking is suspended on both Friday and Saturday.
  • Sanitation will not be collecting garbage and recycling on Saturday. If Saturday is your regular pick-up day, place your trash on the curb on Sunday after 4pm.
  • Because of the fireworks, the Staten Island Ferry will stop running between 8-10pm on Saturday. The last boats leave from both terminals at 7:30pm.

Also, here are the Brooklyn streets that will be closed to traffic on Saturday from 3pm until midnight for the Macy’s fireworks display, according to the Department of Transit:

  • Area bounded by Atlantic Avenue on the South; Old Fulton Street on the North
  • Hicks Street on the East; East River on the West (All Inclusive)
  • Old Fulton Street between Hicks Street and Prospect Street
  • Cadman Plaza West between Prospect Street and Tillary Street
  • Front Street between Old Fulton Street and Jay Street
  • Water Street between Old Fulton Street and Jay Street
