What’s On Your List Of Essential Slope Restaurants?

Chicken and waffles at Talde…yum.

If you had to list the restaurants that are the heart and soul of the neighborhood, the places that we just couldn’t do without, the places that help define what South Slope is, what would they be?

The Village Voice recently put together their own list that covers the entire borough — 99 Essential Restaurants in Brooklyn rounds up places “that define the fabric of this singular locale.” In our area, they only highlighted two spots, but they are definitely among the best:

  • Bagel Hole (400 7th Avenue), which is the Mayor’s fave (and one of ours) which the Voice praises for their bagels’ “masterful contrast between crisp shell and chewy interior — the elusive characteristic that transforms pedestrian bread roll into regional delicacy.”
  • Talde (369 7th Avenue), which is another local spot we could return to again and again (and do). The Voice says it’s full us neighbors like us “because it’s fun, congregating at the bar for punchy, bright cocktails and kung pao wings even if they know they’re never going to get a table.” Yeah, pretty much.

So we’re wondering — what would be on your list of essential South Slope restaurants? What are the places we eat at that make this neighborhood what it is?
