What Would You Like To See At 684 5th Avenue?

The space at 684 5th Avenue, between 20th and 21st Streets, is up for rent, and we’d love to hear what you think might work in the space.

The space has been home to Hair Fair by Alberto for the past 40 years. The salon’s owner, Alberto Maratea, decided to make a move across the street to 681 5th Avenue, a building he purchased in the ’80s, because the rent on his space was going up to much for him to justify staying put.

As for that iconic sign above the shop, a relic of a time before awnings took over most of our streets? That’s not making the move.

“It’s very old,” Alberto told us last year. “And it’s time for a change.”

The 1,000-square-foot storefront is available to rent starting in May, and it’s listed for $4,600 per month. There’s an additional space also available, which would bump it up to 1,376 square feet for $5,850 per month. The listing notes they won’t allow cooking in the space, so most restaurant ideas are out.

So what kind of business do you think could be successful in this spot?
