What Are These "Explosions" On Stratford?

A few weeks ago, a neighbor living on Cortelyou and E 17th reported hearing what sounded like gunshots over the course of multiple nights, though the 70th Precinct confirmed no shell casings were found, and others in the area suggested the noises might have been fireworks. Now, a neighbor is wondering what the “explosions” she and others have heard on Stratford recently really are. She writes:

The first incident was on Saturday, August 3rd. About four extremely loud explosions and 10 smaller explosions happened in quick succession around 11pm or midnight.
You could hear them from Dorchester and Westminster to Stratford and Cortelyou. A bunch of us in the backyard at Bar Chord were extremely startled. Police were called and we saw flashing lights, but never got an update about what happened.
Then, this past Sunday night, August 11th, a smaller number of explosions were audible right in the vicinity of Stratford and Dorchester around 9 or 10pm.

She says she didn’t call the police the second time, but was wondering if any other locals heard the noises, either night–and did you end up speaking to police and getting more insight?

We’ve reached out to the 70th Precinct for more information, and will keep you updated.
