This Week In Ditmas Park
This week in Ditmas Park, our community reeled from several violent assaults. A 53-year-old woman was slashed Thursday morning on Beverley Road; her attacker was caught on surveillance video fleeing the scene. The night before, two victims were stabbed in separate incidents in Prospect Park; a suspect has been arrested who may have been involved in both cases.
There was other crime-related news in our area:
- A 28-year-old man was brutally assaulted Sunday near the Parade Grounds in what he says was a bias attack.
- A Ditmas Park teenager was stabbed Sunday night on Argyle Road; it turns out he may have known his assailant.
- A Flatbush gang member was sentenced for brazenly shooting and killing a rival gang member in broad daylight in 2014 on Cortelyou Road.
- A series of car break-ins were reported near Westminster and Beverley Roads.
Other happenings in our area included:
- Kids came together to support local teen Ikhari Hinds-Lewis, who is recovering from a traumatic brain injury.
- Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has strong support in Kensington, Ditmas Park and other sections of Flatbush, according to recent campaign donation filings.
- Flatbush artists have a chance to make their art public through a new billboard competition.
- A co-working space in Ditmas Park gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, “home office.”
- Ditmas Park artist Kathy Levine shows us the beautiful balance created by nature in our own neighborhood.
- Local residents are transforming a Kensington intersection into a lovely plaza.
- Mimi’s Hummus is getting some love from the New York Times for her new East Village restaurant.
